Frequently Asked Questions

AC Chargers

Our AC EV chargers are designed to work with most electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) that support AC charging.

Compatibility depends on your vehicle’s charging connector and maximum AC charging capacity.

Before purchasing, please check:

  • Your vehicle’s charging connector type.
  • Whether your vehicle supports single-phase or three-phase AC charging.
  • Your vehicle’s maximum AC charging power.

If you’re unsure, contact our team with your vehicle make and model, and we’ll help you identify a suitable charger

Yes. You can purchase a three-phase AC charger even if your vehicle only supports single-phase charging.

The charger will communicate with your vehicle and deliver power according to the vehicle’s charging capability.

For example, if you install a 22kW three-phase charger but your vehicle supports only 7kW single-phase charging, the vehicle will typically charge at a maximum of approximately 7kW, subject to the electrical supply and installation conditions.

Important: Installing a higher-rated charger does not increase your vehicle’s maximum charging capacity.

Choosing the right EV charger depends on your vehicle, electrical supply and daily charging requirements.

Consider these factors:

  • Vehicle compatibility: Check your vehicle’s charging connector and maximum AC charging capacity.
  • Electrical supply: Determine whether your property has a single-phase or three-phase electrical supply.
  • Charging power: Common AC charger ratings include 7kW, 11kW and 22kW.
  • Installation requirements: Consider your parking location, cable routing and available electrical capacity.
  • Smart features: Look for features such as Wi-Fi connectivity, mobile app control, charging schedules and energy monitoring.

If you’re unsure which charger is suitable, our team can recommend a solution based on your vehicle and electrical setup.

Charging time depends on several factors, including your vehicle’s battery capacity, charging power, current battery level and onboard AC charger capacity.

A simple estimated calculation is:

Charging Time (hours) = Battery Capacity (kWh) ÷ Charging Power (kW)

For example, a 60kWh battery charging at 7kW would take approximately 8.6 hours under ideal conditions.

Actual charging time may be longer due to charging efficiency, temperature, battery management and power limitations.

It is normal for a 7kW AC EV charger to deliver approximately 6.6kW instead of the full 7kW. The charger’s rated power represents its maximum output under ideal operating conditions. Actual charging power may vary depending on several factors.

Possible reasons include:

  • Voltage fluctuations: Variations in your electrical supply can affect the charger’s actual output.
  • Vehicle charging limitations: Your vehicle’s onboard charger may regulate the amount of power it receives.
  • Charging cable limitations: The cable’s current rating and condition may affect charging performance.
  • Electrical supply conditions: Available current and circuit capacity can influence charging power.
  • Power management: Dynamic load balancing may automatically reduce charging power to prevent overloading your property’s electrical supply.
  • Charging efficiency and conditions: Vehicle battery temperature and charging settings may also affect the charging rate.

AC and DC charging differ mainly in how electrical power is converted before reaching your EV battery.

AC Charging: Electricity is supplied to the vehicle as AC power, and the vehicle’s onboard charger converts it into DC power to charge the battery.

DC Charging: The charging station converts AC electricity into DC power before delivering it directly to the vehicle’s battery.

For everyday home and workplace charging, AC chargers are generally a practical and cost-effective solution. DC chargers are more suitable when faster charging is required.

Portable Chargers

A portable EV charger is a compact charging device that allows you to charge your electric vehicle using a compatible electrical power outlet.

Unlike a fixed wall-mounted charger, a portable charger can be carried in your vehicle and used at different locations, provided a suitable and safe power supply is available.

It is a convenient solution for home charging, travel and locations without a permanently installed EV charger.

Most portable EV chargers are compatible with EVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles that use the corresponding charging connector.

Before purchasing, check:

  • Your vehicle’s charging inlet type.
  • The charger’s connector compatibility.
  • Your vehicle’s maximum AC charging capacity.
  • The charger’s supported voltage and current.

If you are unsure, contact our team with your vehicle make and model for compatibility confirmation.

Yes. A portable EV charger can be used at home, provided you have a compatible electrical outlet that meets the charger’s power requirements.

For safe operation:

  • Use a properly installed and grounded electrical outlet.
  • Ensure the electrical circuit can support the charger’s rated current.
  • Avoid using extension cords or multi-plug adapters unless explicitly approved by the manufacturer.
  • Keep the charger and connectors away from water and excessive heat.

For higher-power portable chargers, professional electrical assessment may be required.

Charging time depends on your vehicle’s battery capacity, the portable charger’s output power and your vehicle’s onboard AC charging capability.

A basic estimation is:

Charging Time (hours) = Battery Capacity (kWh) ÷ Charging Power (kW)

For example, a 60kWh battery charging at 3.5kW would take approximately 17 hours under ideal conditions.

Actual charging time may vary depending on charging efficiency, battery temperature and electrical supply conditions.

Some portable EV chargers offer adjustable charging current settings.

Depending on the model, you may be able to select different current levels to suit your available electrical supply.

Always ensure the selected current does not exceed the safe capacity of your electrical outlet and circuit.

Please refer to your specific product manual for supported current settings.

Yes, provided the charger is designed for continuous operation and is installed and used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Modern EV charging systems generally include safety protections that monitor charging conditions.

However, always:

  • Use a suitable electrical outlet.
  • Avoid damaged cables or connectors.
  • Keep the charging unit properly ventilated.
  • Avoid exposing the charger to conditions outside its specified operating environment.

Water-resistance ratings vary depending on the portable charger model.

Some chargers are designed to withstand outdoor conditions, but this does not mean every component can be submerged or exposed to heavy water.

Check the product’s IP rating and user manual before outdoor use. Keep electrical plugs and household power connections protected from rain and standing water.

Several factors may affect charging speed:

  • Current settings: The charger may be configured to deliver a lower current.
  • Electrical outlet: The available power supply may limit charging performance.
  • Vehicle limitation: Your vehicle’s onboard charger may have a lower maximum AC charging capacity.
  • Temperature protection: The charger may automatically reduce power if excessive heat is detected.
  • Power fluctuations: Changes in the electrical supply can affect charging output.

Check your charger’s current settings and vehicle charging specifications. If the issue persists, contact our technical support team

We generally recommend connecting your portable EV charger directly to a suitable electrical outlet.

Extension cords can introduce additional resistance, heat and potential electrical hazards, particularly during prolonged high-current charging.

Only use an extension solution if it is explicitly approved by the charger manufacturer and has been assessed as suitable for the required electrical load.

If your charger displays an error or stops charging unexpectedly:

  1. Stop the charging session.
  2. Check that the power supply and charging connectors are properly connected.
  3. Inspect the cable and connectors for visible damage or overheating.
  4. Refer to the user manual for the corresponding error code.
  5. Restart the charger only if the manual indicates it is safe to do so.

If the error continues, contact BCS technical support and provide the charger model, error code and a photograph of the display.
